Welcome to Inyoung Kim's Home Page

I am an Assistant professor in the department of Statistics at Virginia Tech. I received my Ph.D in the department of Statistic at Texas A& M university and was trained as a postdocoral research associate in the division of Biostatistics, the department of Epidemiology and Public Health, at Yale university.

Research Interests:

  • Semiparametric/Nonparametric Modeling using Regression Splines/Smoothing Splines
  • Nonlinear/linear mixed effect modeling
  • Semi/Nonparametric Bayesian Modeling and Computation
  • Survival Analysis
  • Biostatistics (Biology, Environmental Health, Epidemiology and Toxicology)
  • Bioinformatics (Functional Genomics, System Biology, Proteomics)

    Research Summary:

My research interests focus on developing semi/nonparametric statistical methods/theory using regression/ smoothing splines to address issues in several areas (epidemiology, genomics, proteomics, and system biology). Both Frequentist and Bayesian methods have been developed: I primarily have worked on developing theory and method to estimate smoothing parameter in semiparametric regression splines using matched case-control studies as well as a new graphical method based on a semiparametric varying coefficients model using a bootstrapping approach. I have proposed a new model based on the mixture of nonlinear mixed effect model for gastric emptying data. Statistical methods were developed for detecting differentially expressed genes, and identifing molecular prognosis indicator of cancer, which is gene expression profile related to survival outcome. Currently I have developed new model and Bayesian methods for protein interaction predictions. I am also working on developing Bayesian semiparametric mixed effect model for gene pathway analysis.
