Cooperative Education Program
The Cooperative Education Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain professional job experience while completing the undergraduate degree. Many government agencies and private companies from the Washington, D.C. area and mid-Atlantic states seek co-op students to take advantage of their programs. Usually there are more positions available each year than are filled by Statistics majors.
The compensation received for co-op work enables students to earn enough money to greatly assist in meeting their financial needs. The Co-op program allows students to pre-test their careers. They can confirm what they want to do, and learn what is expected of them to succeed.
The best time for students to enter the co-op program is at the end of their sophomore or junior year as they are expected to utilize their statistics skills. However, students are encouraged to apply any time. Upon completion of the co-op experience, students are much better situated to enter the job market. Although there is no obligation after graduation, 40 percent of Co-op students are hired by their Co-op employers, and another 40 percent find employment in directly related fields. Co-op students gain experience which commands a higher starting salary and earlier promotion opportunities. Participants in the Co-op program have expressed a greater motivation in their academic pursuits which is reflected in their higher grades.
The Cooperative Education Program is strongly recommended for all interested students. For more information contact the Co-op Coordinator:
